DEFINITION:
Every counterattack and fast change from phase defense to phase attack
GUIDELINES:
It could be added to one of all players, who are involved in the counter attack of the team – from the first to the last one could be added. The ball must be in the possession of the opposite team, to be stolen from a player, his teammates to run forward, changing fast from phase defense to attack, trying to catch their opponents unprepared. Fast change from defense to attack. The team/players must reach at least the opposite final third or near/inside the penalty area. One unsuccessful pass is not enough for counterattack (long pass, going out of the pitch). Attacking player, fouled in the middle of the pitch - it's an attempt, but not counterattack.
- it should be used, when a team wins the possession of the ball, steals it by the opposite team and change very fast from defense to attack
- the ball must be stolen from a player, his teammates run forward, move fast from phase defense to phase attack, trying to catch their opponents unprepared
- it must be added only to one of all players (not all of them, just one is enough), who are involved in the counter attack of the team – from the first to the last one could be added
Inter attacks and after the blocked shot the ball is taken by de Jong, who runs forward with it - fast change from phase defense to phase attack after the possession of the ball is changed, which leads to a dangerous attack for Barca next
Barca wins the possession of the ball in the middle of the pitch and catches the opposite team unprepared with many opposite players forward, behind the line of the ball
The blue team steals the ball and organize fast attack with advantage of the number of the players forward - after 2 passes the ball is directed forward and N.10 runs with the opposite player (who appears to be faster) with the idea to reach the ball - counterattack is ok to be used here, because of the good advantage of the players in blue in the beginning and the middle of the attack
The white team wins the possession of the ball and tries to organize fast attack - it's enough to use counterattack in this situation
Perfect example for successful counterattack for Barcelona, which leads to goal
For the team in white shirts this should be tagged like counterattack, because they go forward very fast after the corner kick and reach the final third of the pitch, even if they slow down the attack at the end - there are many sprints (in attack and defense by both team's players)
Counterattack should be tagged here for the black team, doesn't matter that at the end the player decides to not develop it and waste some time instead
- the team/players must reach at least the opposite final third or near/inside the opposite penalty area to add counterattack, if it's cut earlier - not needed
- attacking player, fouled in the middle of the pitch - it's an attempt for counterattack, which is stopped with foul, but not not enough to add attribute counterattack
Inter wins the possession of the ball and start a counterattack, which is stopped in the middle of the pitch with a foul - it's an attempt for counterattack, but not counterattack (too early stopped)
- one unsuccessful pass, which is not reached by a teammate, is not enough to add counterattack (long pass, which goes out of the pitch or it's taken by an opposite player)
- if a player receives a long pass by the GK, for an example, and he is alone, dribbles for some time against the opposite players near the penalty area and next a defender clears the ball - it's ok to add counterattack, because he gives some time to his teammates to run forward
Sommer catches the ball and kicks it forward immediately with the idea to find a teammate and start a fast counterattack - the ball doesn't reach a teammate, the opposite team takes it, so counterattack is not needed here
There is long pass by the GK, which is reached by a teammate - De Bruyne passes the ball next and there is good opportunity for development of the attack - in these cases, when the long pass of the GK is reached, counterattack should be used (just not accurate action by De Bruyne)
- if the ball is stolen near the opposite penalty area or in the final third (between the penalty area and the central circle of the pitch), counterattack is not needed, because there is not enough time of reorganization of the team - just a mistake by the opposite team deep in their own half
Liverpool win the ball too high in front of the opposite penalty area - this is not counterattack, because there is no time the team to change from phase defense to phase attack - just a mistake by the opposite player, which creates opportunity for Salah
Bad pass from the player in blue shirt, but still his teammates are on their positions and it's just a mistake in their own half (in front of their penalty area, where the opposite player takes the ball), which doesn't give enough time the other team to change fast from defense to attack
Counterattack for the red team is not needed, because they steal the ball very deep in the opposite half, after the individual mistake of the opposite player
The red team looses the ball into their own half - counterattack is not needed in this situation, because there is no quick transition from defense to attack for the other team (they are with high defensive line at that moment, most of them into the opposite half) and most of the players in read are still on their positions
- it must be used only, when the possession of the ball is in the opposite team and it's stolen (fast build up attack, if the possession is in the team - not counterattack...also if the opposite team just takes the ball for a few seconds - not enough long possession)
Borussia Dortmund have the possession of the ball in this situation, doesn't matter that in some moment an opposite player touches the ball (with interception) and next it goes again to a player in yellow - the possession is not changed and doesn't matter that it looks like fast attack, which catches Bayern unprepared, it's because the players in red are forward to press high
- when a team steals the ball, but organize the attack too slow - it's not needed to add counterattack, it must be fast build up of the attack
The players in white/black shirts win the possession of the ball, but next organize their attack too slow and they give enough time to the opposite players to come back on their positions in defense - counterattack is not needed here
