DEFINITION:
Aggressive sprint forward against an opponent, when the possession of the ball is in the opposite team
GUIDELINES:
Defensive movement - it's a full sprint forward/sideward against an opposite player, when the ball is in the possession of the opposite team and a player press, runs very aggressive against the opponent, leaving his zone, trying to disturb and force him to clear the ball or do some mistake. But if there is an attempt to steal the ball, there is a contact between both players or the opposite player tries to dribble and play 1 vs. 1 – it will be Defensive duel.
- defensive movement - the possession of the ball must be in the opposite team
- it must be aggressive sprint against an opposite player, who has the possession of the ball, with the idea to disturb and force him to act quickly
- one of the only 2 events, which is tagged where it ends, not whete it starts (the red point should be at the end of the movement)
Suarez attacks very aggressive the opposite defender
Suarez sprints after the kicked ball and disturbs aggressive the opposite player, who clears the ball
Salah sprints against the opposite player in full speed (pressing duel for him) and Mane just pushes away the opposite player, but not so aggressive (not needed pressing duel for him)
The player of Manchester City presses very aggressive Karius
The striker of Porto attacks in full speed Karius and force him to clear the ball
For N.20 this should be tagged pressing duel - aggressive enough, long enough movement, deep in the opposite half, forces the opposite player to play with the ball immediately, not giving him enough time to think what to do with it
- if it's not a sprint, a player just closes the opponent's options - not a Pressing duel
- just a few steps against an opposite player are not enough to use pressing duel
Salah sprints against the opposite player aggresive, in full speed (pressing duel for him) and Mane just pushes away the opposite player, but not so aggressive (not needed pressing duel for him)
Lukaku goes forward against the opposite defender, but not in full speed and not enough aggressive - not needed pressing duel for him
For N17 in white shirt pressing duel is not needed to be tagged in this situation, because she was chasing the pass first and after that it's not enough aggressive, just continues her run
- it should be forward / sideward movement (backward only if it's close to the opposite goal)
N.10 attacks aggressive his opponent - the movement is not forward, but sideward - the idea of the player is to force the opposite player to act quickly and do some mistake - pressing duel, not defensive positioning here
Even if the run of Salah is a bit sideward/backward at the end, still in the whole situation he presses and disturb the opposite players - so deep in the opposite half is more usual to be pressing duel, not defensive positioning (in this situation - if he continues to chase the opposite player in his own half, could be defensive positioning at the end)
Bamford from Leeds - his idea is to press the opposite player, to disturb him, even if the movement is not forward, still pressing duel is better option instead defensive positioning in this situation
N.9 in red shirt sprints very aggressive against the opposite defender deep in their own half, in the final third of the pitch - it's pressing duel, not defensive positioning, even if there is some movement back at the end (which he doesn't continue) - the idea is that he tries to disturb the opposite player, not to chase him back
N.11 from Inter sprints backward to help in defense - even if he is aggressive against the first opposite player, in general this movement should be tagged like defensive positioning, not pressing duel
- if there is a significant contact or attempt to steal the ball, dribble by the opposite player, it's Defensive duel, not Pressing duel
- not every contact between a players, must be a defensive duel - if a player touches very slight an opposite player with hand, it's not enough to use a defensive duel, but better pressing duel
For N.20 in white shirt - it's pressing duel, not defensive duel, even if there is slight contact at the end with the opposite player and he pushes him - it's after the pass and here he goes forward to force the opposite player to act quickly - touching with hand or slight contact are not always enough to be defensive duel
N.5 in red - pressing duel, not defensive duel - slight contact with hand is not enough to use defensive duel
N.32 in white/black shirt attacks N.7 in red/green shirt - N.7 dribbles him with lying move, it's 1 v.s 1 play - not pressing duel here, but defensive/offensive duel for both players
Morata presses aggressive Donnarumma and does a tackle at the end - his jump on the ground is with the idea to intercepts the GK's action, not to steal the ball from him (he doesn't jump in his feet) - pressing duel here
N.7 in yellow shirt attacks very aggressive his opponent in white shirt, who fools him that he is going to pass and moves the ball to the other direction - it's not pressing duel for N.7, but defensive duel for him (and offensive duel for the other player)
The player in white attacks very aggressive the GK and he dribbles him with dangerous movement with the ball - it must be defensive duel for the attacking player, not pressing duel, because it's 1 vs. 1 game here, both players are very close to each other
N.5 in yellow shirt attacks twice the opposite player - the first time is defensive duel and next should be used pressing duel too, because it's different action
- usually it's used in the opposite half or in the middle of the pitch (yet, it could be used in the own half)
Ortamendi (left central defender) goes forward to disturb the opposite player, doesn't matter that he is his own half and in the zone of the left defender (not covering depth, because the movement is forward, not diagonal and backward)
Alba attacks very aggressive Bale in his own half and pushes him away
N.5 forces the opposite player to run back with the ball, pushes him away
N.41 in red shirt sprints very aggressive against the opposite player, tries to disturb him and to block his shot - even in front of the own penalty area pressing duel could be used, when a player is so aggressive
- if a player presses more than one opposite players (2, 3 or more) it's enough to tag only one Pressing duel for the whole situation
For the player in black shirt - the first sprint against David Silva is pressing duel, the second movement is not so aggressive and can be skipped
De Jong runs aggressive against 2 opposite players and this run is pressing duel (at the end it's defensive duel with N.4, because there is 1 vs. 1 play between them)
N.10 in grey shirt attacks first 2 opposite players - it's not needed to tag different pressing duel against both of them, just 1 pressing duel for the whole press is enough (doesn't matter how many players are pressed in the same situation) - at the end, after the pressing duel, with N.5 is defensive duel
- if a player sprints to chase the ball, not to press the opponent near by - it's pressing duel, not off the ball movement
Not pressing duel for Salah, because he chases the long pass, sprints to reach ball, just the opposite player takes the it first - his sprint is not to disturb the opposite player, but a try to reach the ball
For the player in blue/white shirt is pressing duel, not off the ball movement, because the opposite player is in better position and it's obvious that he will reach the ball first - the attacking player starts his sprint to force the player in red to do some mistake
For Salah is pressing duel, not off the ball movement, because he starts his run after the pass and it's obvious that the opposite player will reach the ball first - he tries to disturb him, not to reach the ball
N.17 in red/black shirt runs forward to the empty zone, where he wants to receive the pass from his teammate - it's off the ball movement, not pressing duel, because his sprint is in attack, just the opposite player is faster than him and clears the ball
- when a player is in the zone of his teammate, but runs forward (not back, diagonal movement) - it's pressing duel, not covering depth
Ortamendi (left central defender) goes forward to disturb the opposite player, doesn't matter that he is his own half and in the zone of the left defender (not covering depth, because the movement is forward, not diagonal and backward)
N.95 from Inter - even if he goes in his teammate's zone, his movement is forward and must be tagged like pressing duel, not covering depth - he goes to disturb the opposite player
