DEFINITION:
Crossed ball, directed into the penalty area
GUIDELINES:
It's used, when a player kicks/cross the ball into the penalty area, most of the times from both sides/wings of the pitch. He tries to deliver some good ball inside, finding some teammate or creating some dangerous situation.
- every crossed ball from play, directed into the penalty area
- almost always it's curved ball, directed from both wings (rare from the middle of the pitch)
High cross by Mane with his left foot
High cross by the player of Durtmund with his right foot
High cross with right foot by Arnold
Low cross by Arnold with his right foot
Blocked cross by Arnold with right foot
Low cross with left foot by Aubameyang
Blocked cross by De Bruyne with right foot
N.12 from Sevilla touches the ball, after the cross of Haaland, but the ball continues into the penalty area (N.12 doesn't change so much the trajectory of the ball) - still Interception must be tagged for him, but before the cross (to not interrupt the software algorithm), because the cross must be tagged like low, not blocked and yet his touch must be not missed
- almost always it's curved ball, directed from both wings (rare from the middle of the pitch)
After the clearance of the GK, the player of Sevilla directs the ball into the penalty area - still must be tagged like a cross
Saka goes inside and crosses the ball from the spot in front of the penalty areaÂ
Directed ball into the penalty area by the player in purple shirt from the middle of the pitch, without any specific target - cross for him
- if it's some directed ball behind the defensive line with specific target, could be LRK + through pass, not a Cross
- not every high ball, directed into the penalty area, should be a cross
The player, who delivers the ball to N.11 in dark shirt - he looks that his teammate runs behind the line and his idea is to pass the ball behind the defenders, trying to find exactly N.11 - long range kick + though pass, not a cross here
The pass of Salah to Mane must be pass, not smart pass or cross, because Mane is already in front of the marking defender, because of his good speed and the pass creates good chance, but it's not between some opposite players (all defenders are behind the line of the pass) - Salah sees and finds his teammate with simple pass
Messi sees the run of Alba and tries to deliver him the ball into the penalty area - specific idea and target, doesn't matter that the ball is directed into the penalty area, it's long range kick, not a cross
N.18 in blue shirt - too short distance to be a cross, he tries to find his teammate, N.22, with a pass
Saka goes inside and crosses the ball from the spot in front of the penalty area - after his dribble, he looks on the ground and just kicks the ball into the penalty area, but without any specific idea or target - cross, a not long range kick
N.12 in white shirt tries to find a specific teammate, who is in the penalty area - it's a pass, not a cross, because it's clearly directed ball to a teammate with simple directed pass
The pass of Gnabry to Sane must be smart pass, not a cross, because it's directed ball between some of the opposite players to a specific target
The attacking player of Athletic Bilbao, who dribbles near the out line, delivers the ball at the end into the small penalty area - it's low cross, not pass or smart pass
N.4 kicks in specific way the ball and directs it into the penalty area - it should be tagged like a cross, not lrk
N.16 in red shirt kicks the ball very bad - he tries to deliver a cross into the penalty area (a bad one), not to pass the ball with long range kick
Smart + through pass is the better option here instead of low cross for N.10 in black shirt, because all players are outside of the penalty area to be a cross, also there is clear and creative intention with specific target to find his teammate with this diagonal pass in good position behind the defensive line, doesn't matter that the pass comes from the wing close to the sideline
- like all events, it's important what is the idea - if a player tries to cross the ball, but it's not a good cross and the ball hits the post - it must be tagged like Cross, not a Shot, because this is what the player wants to do
- if there is an attempt for cross, but the ball goes in the net - doesn't matter what is the intention of the player, it should be tagged like a shot (only there we have option goal with the attributes)
- if there is blocked ball into the penalty area from close distance and small angle, not clear if the player tries to shoot or cross the ball, consider the trajectory of the ball - is the player tries to direct it against goal, could be a shot; if he tries to direct it backward from the line of the ball - it should be a cross. In general - if it's not clear shot, better to be tagged like a cross.
Mount dribbles and tries to cross the ball, but the ball goes dangerously and the GK saves it - always must be considered the idea of the player (if there is not a goal) and cross must be tagged here, not a shot
In this situation must be tagged shot, not a cross, because there is a goal scored by the player in black/red shirt - doesn't matter that his idea is to cross the ball, it must be tagged shot, because goal can't be added to event cross
Sanchez from Inter - after his dribble, he tries to do some action - in situations like that, when it's difficult to understand what a player tries to do, must be considered some other things - are there any teammates near by and does the player look for a free one before or looks all the time the ground...in this situation, better to be tagged is shot, not a cross, because he plays individually and doesn't looks for a teammate
Coutinho tries to find Aguero, not to shoot that ball - doesn't matter that it almost went into the goal, still it's not an attempt for shooting and must be tagged not like shot - we have to consider what is his idea
The player in yellow shirt tries to cross the ball, not to shoot it, doesn't matter that it goes directly in goal and the GK saves it - always consider the idea of the player, that's why this should be tagged like cross, not a shot (the only exception could be if there was a goal in this situation, because there is no option "goal" to the cross)
The goal of Lewandowski comes from a good example of a shot + assist by Raphina, not a cross, because Raphina tries to shoot the ball, his idea is not to cross it
