EVENT NUMBER 20, Blists Hill Victorian Town
Ironbridge
Wednesday 30th April – Price:- £52.00
Blists Hill Victorian Town is an open-air museum built on a former industrial complex located in the Madeley area of Telford, Shropshire, England. The museum recreates the sights, sounds and smells of a Victorian Shropshire town in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
It feels like you step back in time to the dawn of the modern age and experience what everyday life was like in 1900. See how technological advances and industry were changing people's lives. You can visit Victorian shops and cottages, meet craftspeople demonstrating their trades and taste authentic food in our recreated working town.
The museum has three districts: i) a town area with Victorian era shops such as a bank, bakery, bicycle shop and post office; ii) an industrial district that provided various employment from a blast furnace and wrought iron works; and iii) a countryside district with buildings such as a squatter's cottage and tin roof church. The museum has been used as a venue for various television programmes and films, including Doctor Who and Blue Peter.
There is a small train which takes you into the Blists Hill mine and a horse bus ride is available at certain times around the streets of the upper town.
There are food outlets, including traditional fish and chips, or you are welcome to bring your own picnic.
We will leave Peterborough at 8.30am, with a comfort stop at Rugby Services, arriving at Ironbridge around 11.15am. We will depart Ironbridge at 5.00pm and should be back in Peterborough at around 7.45pm with another comfort stop on the way home.
