2023 AGM Webmaster's report

Webmaster’s  report for the PLSC 2023 AGM in March 2023, by David Foster (Webmaster)

The new website launched in 2021 continues to work well and seems to be liked by users.

I have received comments that it is easy to navigate around and its appearance is crisp and “with the times“.

It has a few modern features compared with the original version.

For example the pages adjust automatically when read on a smartphone or tablet, which is a necessary requirement now-a-days. The original website could not do this, and the pages were always distorted.

Another is the capability to download Booking Forms which can either be printed or completed electronically, with online banking and despatch by email.

I keep the website up todate, with latest details, for example of the 2023 events, being posted very shortly after they are known, Gold Award information for submitters, news of deceased members and event reports.

I am pleased to advise Bob Gregory-Smith is fully on board as co-webmaster. We have had a couple of one-on-one experience-transfer sessions. He can now alter, add or delete anything on the website just the same as I.

Most importantly his website presence provides security and continuity if I ever had a dispute with the proverbial bus!

The monitoring system has just been updated by Google, to follow how many hits per day the website receives.

On average it’s about 8 to 9 per day and not always the same people.  Bob also has access to this. We can see what they’ve viewed, and where they’re viewing from, but not who they are.

The most reviewed pages are the events and interestingly the Heritage snippets and Deceased members pages.

Please let me know if you have any ideas or suggestions, I am always on the lookout for continuous improvement.
