Secrets for Success in College - Part 1
Pierpont has students in 13 counties in West Virginia and other locations!
To meet all of our students' needs, we use an online bookstore and library.
Do I need textbooks?
How do I know which textbooks I need?
That depends upon the class.
Some classes have regular textbooks, others use online textbooks, others don't use textbooks.
You also can go to Pierpont's bookstore to see if the bookstore has a textbook for the class.
On the first day of the class, look at the syllabus for your class on Blackboard. Information about textbooks should be included.
If there is no information, contact your instructor.
Do I have to buy the textbook or can I rent it?
If the textbook is available to rent, that information will be on Pierpont's bookstore.
NOTE: If your class requires an access code it is recommended that you purchase your code from the bookstore or from the publisher's website. This prevents you from accidentally purchasing an incorrect code or a code that has expired.

How do I pay for textbooks using my financial aid?
When you order your books from Pierpont's Campus Store, when you check out, you have the option to provide information about your Pierpont financial aid.

Tip: When you purchase online, pay attention to when the textbooks will arrive. Having the textbook arrive at midterm instead of the beginning of the semester can put you significantly behind in your classes and you might not be able to turn in assignments late.
What if Pierpont's Campus Store (bookstore) doesn't have the required textbook or it is back-ordered to arrive in a few weeks?
Notify your instructor immediately to see what other options you might have.
Note: This should not happen for access codes or eBooks.
Do I need any equipment?
Some programs do require their students to purchase equipment, for example, a pastry kit or knife kit in the Culinary programs. Your instructors should provide you with this information. Also, check your syllabus.
