Did you know that almost 80% of people are extroverted? In our social experiment, we surveyed 50 Grade 9 students at Nepean, asking them to tell us their favorite fall activities. Little did they know, they were providing us with data, which would help us determine the social tendencies of freshmen who are introverted or extroverted.
In case you’re wondering, here’s what some people had to say about their favorite things to do during fall!
Watching shows (Many said Gilmore Girls)
Baking
Trick-or-Treating
Going to coffee shops and reading
Pumpkin carving
Taking pictures of the scenery and going for walks
Sports
Going to parties
In total, 56% of students chose extroverted fall activities, and 46% of students chose introverted activities. This is a major deviation from known statistics.
Older statistics show that extroverts were much more prevalent, however our statistics show a more balanced equilibrium between introverts and extroverts. We infer that due to the pandemic, students have lost social and communication skills, which leads them to enjoy introverted activities more (mostly on screens). The pandemic lasted from approximately 2020-2022, and during this time period, current Grade 9 students were around 9-12, which are key formative years for social development. Since the Grade 9’s mostly missed out on these crucial years, it has caused an increase in introversion and online activity.
As technology is improving, and people are spending more and more time on screens, could this possibly increase the number of introverts in the world?
