News from the Drama Department!

The Nepean Drama department is made of so many classes and clubs, it's going to be difficult to cover it all in one go. But I will certainly give it my best shot!

Starting off at the shows they put on every spring. From last year's musical “Little Shop of Horrors”, to the upcoming murder mystery “Clue”, these performances are a showcase of the incredible talent we have right here at Nepean! Auditions for these shows are open to any student! So keep an eye out for a signup sheet as we approach the holidays!

How do all these wonderful productions happen? That would be the stage production class. The production or “prod” class is made up of grade 10, 11, and 12 students with a passion for building sets, creating costumes, props, advertising or any number of other aspects of producing shows! Grade 12 students take on leadership roles, managing and mentoring the younger students as they learn, and create in class!

Each year, a few grade 12 students with a particular interest in writing and directing put on a children's theatre production. They hold auditions, choose a cast, raise funds and tour Ottawa’s elementary schools with their show! They also have a show open to anyone on November 27th, buy tickets in the hall or at the doors! And of course we’ll give a special mention to Mr. Wright, for helping in every way to put on these shows in every possible way. Without him, none of this would be possible.

Another great event to come check out is the Connors Cup right here at Nepean! Where our junior and senior improv teams will compete December 6th to 8th, performing in different events, and showing off their skills and practice from Improv club.

It’s hard to come to a conclusion about the entire drama department, as it's a part of our school that’s always changing and evolving. From new projects, to our favorite performers graduating, Nepean Drama is certainly a special part of our school. I highly recommend getting involved, whether with a class or club, it’s an incredible experience to be a part of it.
