New Semester, New Me?

Jenna Lynsey / 2024-1-26

Finally exam season is over and it feels like life is good again. The sun is shining on my skin, the birds are chirping and I feel like life is light and breezy once again. Smiles in the hallways become three times bigger, a weight the size of human history is lifted from my shoulders and the walk to school doesn’t seem as far and cold as before.

My friends wait for me outside, with plans! Actual weekend plans! Aside from: “Hey, let's study at bridgehead.”

New classes and new faces remind me that a fresh start is possible. I swear this time I’ll finish all my homework on time, and I’ll get that A++ in math I’ve always dreamed of. For me a new semester is better than the new year.

Life feels so wonderful, I had an eight hour sleep last night! Eight hours of non-interupted-warm-under-blankets-no-worries-or-problems-sleep! Waking up with the sun bright in the morning sky and a cup of coffee in my hand, I feel unstoppable.

It feels like the weather knows when students are the most stressed. The freezing rain and darkness of exam week perfectly expresses my feelings towards it. Studying for what felt like eternity in the small hours of the morning for an exam which lasts all but 3 hours.

I’m not a fool, I know there'll be more exams to come, and more exam seasons to stress about. But for now, all I can think about is the happiness I feel now that exam season is over.
