two dimensions of the conjugal union?
Responsible fatherhood and motherhood directly concern the moment in which a man and a woman, uniting themselves "in one flesh", can become parents. This is a moment of special value both for their interpersonal relationship and for their service to life: they can become parents—father and mother—by communicating life to a new human being. The two dimensions of conjugal union, the unitive and the procreative, cannot be artificially separated without damaging the deepest truth of the conjugal act itself.
-- John Paul II, Gratissimam #12
Did you know what...
is contraception?
Contraception is any action which in anticipation of the conjugal act or in its accomplishment, proposes to render procreation impossible. This is intrinsically evil.
Contraceptive acts include all forms of sterilization, male and female condoms and other barrier methods, spermicides, coitus interruptus
[withdrawal method}, the pill and other related methods that sever the unitive and procreative significance inherent in the marital act.
-- Humane Vitae 14, CCC 2370
Did you know that...
married couples are called to love each other as Christ loves His Church, and contraception turns the “ I do’s” of wedding vows to “I do not”?
Contraception is against the elements of the marriage commitment:
Free : To say that love is free means to accept the other without conditions. Contraception places a condition within the marriage.
Total: Contracepted intercourse says “ I give myself to you totally except my fertility.
Faithful: Fidelity cannot remain compatible with violations of freedom, total self-gift and openness to children.
Fruitful: Sex with contraception violates the procreative aspect of the sexual union.

natural family planning is acceptable in spacing births?
NFP is in keeping with the free, total, faithful and fruitful commitment of the conjugal act. Periodic abstinence is in accord with God’s plan. Abstaining from intercourse is not contraceptive.
“If there are well grounded reasons for spacing births, married couples can take advantage of the natural cycles immanent in the reproductive system and engage in marital intercourse only during those times that are infertile.”
-- Pope Paul VI, Humane Vitae 16
