It's very windy and hot again today. So far, it's been an excellent spring. The last one of Frances' puppies left this a.m. for an excellent home. Tomorrow a.m. Edith's one little girl heads home to be with her one year old brother. On May 30, Eleanor and Flo (both bassets) are due with puppies and on June 2, Lola is due with her first litter. Ada and Sid's litters will start leaving soon as well.
The honeybees came through the winter in great shape. Three of the colonies were really strong, one was weak. I had ordered 4 more three pound packages just in case some of the colonies perished over the winter. Not only did they not perish, they were so strong and powerful they needed to be divided. So now after dividing three of the colonies, we have ten colonies. I have found 10 colonies is a lot more work than four. We have placed them in several different locations hoping that they yield more honey, so add in additional drive time.
The next major project is to get the pumpkins and squash planted during this coming week. That's always a major undertaking.
I plan on going to Stateline Plant Connection today to get plants for the windowboxes and planters. I will wait till tomorrow to plant so they don't get beat up by the wind.
We got the cukes, zucchini, yellow squash, Indian corn, broom corn, and sweet corn planted this week. I started some tomatoes, peppers, and eggplants from seeds and they are ready to be set out as well. I'm waiting for a quieter day. Bug and I went to the hatchery on Thursday to pick up our first batch of chicks. He wanted to hold
one for the drive home. When I looked back to check on him, the chick was riding in the cup holder of the car seat. That kid.
