And just like that spring, summer, and fall are gone and we are back to winter. We have planted, weeded, harvested and put away equipment for another season to come. We did not have many puppies over this summer but we are becoming very busy now. We currently have just our second litters of huskies for this year and also have a litter of 7 bassets puppies. We are expecting two more basset litters in the next month and two more husky litters. Last week the USDA inspector came. These visits are always announced. We felt it was the worst possible time as we were right in the middle of moving bassets around to their winter quarters so everything was in disarray. Fortunately, the inspector was reasonable and stated he understood what we were trying to accomplish and gave us a clean inspection report. That same afternoon we moved our bee colonies home so they are more accessible during the winter. We got lots of honey this year and the hives feel heavy with stores for the winter so we will attempt again to bring them through the winter. Yesterday I prepared the candy boards to put on the hives later in the week when the weather report says it will be a little warmer. I lost my mom this past July. She was 98 and was blessed with a good long live. Even with dementia, she taught us during the last months. We had lots of laughs and happy moments. She taught us to be quiet and listen because we never knew when she would come up with something wonderful about her life that we had never heard before. Treasure your elders while they are still with you because in the blink of an eye they will be gone. This leaves my 98 year old dad who is trying hard but finding it difficult to adjust to being without his sweetheart of 75 years.
