Blustery and cold tonight. Why is it mother's choose nights like this to have babies? Ada is having her puppies. I checked on her at 10 p.m. and she had one puppy. Checked again a few minutes ago and there are 6. Four white, one red/white, one black/white. Will examine more closely in the morning. Whereas the bassets like me to be right with them at whelping time, huskies prefer solitude. So I monitor progress discreetly so as not to disturb. Ada got up and was looking for food so I fed her so I'm guessing she is finished with a nice litter of 6. Would have preferred to see a different mix of color but we don't get to choose. It's always a good feeling when the delivery is safely over. I mentioned in my last post that we couldn't really tell for sure if Edith was pregnant. We couldn't even tell on Saturday, 3 days before her due date, until she had her litter of ONE puppy late Saturday morning. Edith is as proud of her one little girl as Frances is of her eight.
Last night we moved four bee hives. One to a farther area of our yard and three to a new area by a river about 5 miles from here. We are hoping that area will have better bee forage for better honey production. We move them in the dark so it was 10 p.m. before we got done. Guess that is why I'm really tired today. In a couple weeks I have four packages of bees arriving which will go over by our pumpkin field to pollinate that this summer. Still have some repair and painting work to do on equipment first.
This spring weather has been wonderful. It's nice to have the fruit trees pruned early. Bug and I went to Hoover's Hatchery on Thursday morning to pick up 15 started pullets for our chicken coop. He helped transfer them from the crate to the coop. We already been getting eggs. First day, one egg, second day three eggs, third day 6 eggs.
