Testimonials
I have been very lax in posting testimonials as we receive them. To get started on the right foot again, here is one I received today.
"Just wanted to share our girl Basil. We got her from you in the summer of 2021. Her mom is Charlotte. She's extremely energetic and still hasn't howled like a normal basset. Thank you again for our bundle of Joy. "
September 1, 2020 This is Ohren on his throne surveying his kingdom. He is the King of his castle. From Jessica, "I just got to tell you that he is the best dog ever. As you can see he owns this house and we couldn't be happier!"
March 30, 2020 Above is Nugget. Look at that lace ear! "She's the best dog I've ever had, and we love her so much. She sits upright on the couch like a human. And when she sleeps her eyes are often open and/or rolling back. She has yet to bark at another dog or person. She is such a snuggle bug. Love her so much!"
(Above) Dottie. It is not unusual to have a runt puppy particularly when the litter is large. In a large litter, the strongest will push the weaker away from the milk source. Nature is not always kind. When that happens, we make every effort to help the little guy or gal survive. Sometimes we fail and sometimes we succeed Dottie here was from a litter of ten out of Petra and Hoover. You wouldn't know it by looking at her now that she was the runt of the litter. I hand fed Dottie and then supplemented her with a bottle after she gained some strength. We have noticed over the years that runts that survive have the best outlook on life. Maybe it is because they get handled even more than the others in our quest to save them. We do know that they are not to be denied. Somehow they know they cheated death and they live life to the fullest. We just got her first birthday report: "Just wanted to check in a year later....that runt that wasn't supposed to live....well she has found her tribe and we love her so. She is living her best life, 2 meals a day, barking at UPS men, riding in Rangers and snuggling on the sofa." There is a lesson in this for all us humans. Never give up. We so love these updates. (June 5, 2019)
(Above) It's party time for Sophie and Sadie Jane. Sophie is 2 and Sadie Jane is 1 and both started their lives at Ashland Farm.
"They have grown up to be beautiful girls. Sadie has been nicknamed the Kracken (the beast from the Clash of the Titans).
Both are healthy, active & fed well as you can see. They are loved by all, even the neighbor kids come to see them.
Thank you so much for letting us be their human parents" Party on girls!
"Just to let you know she was sent to the best home and there is no better dog I can have then her! :)" People continuously give us credit for making these good dogs but actually we only have them for eight weeks. It's the wonderful homes they go to after that who make them into such awesome family members Below is Molly. Every bassets dream would be to be pulled around in a wagon. No exertion needed.
It's such a good feeling to get follow-up emails from happy people:
This is Sydney. Her people say, "We are just so happy with her! She is such a funny dog!! We take her everywhere with us and she is such a little social butterfly! She loves people!! Again, thank you so much for allowing us to adopt her!! "
The little cutie below is Gerti! Isn't she the cutest little girl? Her humans wrote and said:
"We just want to say thank you. We are truly in love with our puppy. Gerti is our son's best friend already. She loves to snuggle and to play. She already has crate training down at night. Working on potty training during the day. We took her to the vet and she got high remarks on how healthy and beautiful she is.
Thank you again",
Here are Dodge and Disney, or is it Disney and Dodge? Dodge was a year older than Disney. Dodge's owners came to our farm to bring home with them. A year later I remember delivering Disney to Dodge's home. That was over 10 years ago. Just this week I received photos about Dodge and Disney along with videos about each of them. In their time on this earth, it was clear to me they were the luckiest basset hounds on the planet. They had a great and full life and are together in Basset Heaven. .
We received this note and photo about Charlie Rocket.(below) "As you can see he is pretty confident, secure and adjusted. Our boy is loved by everyone and he loves them back. Our granddaughters think he is the "best puppy ever" even though he is almost 2 now. Just wanted to thank you again for letting us have Charlie in our lives." J.S.
Here's Ruby (left) and Daisy (right) snuggling on their recliner. Here's the email I received from Jennifer and Don. "I thought I would send you a photo of Ruby. We love her and our other Basset Daisy so much. I still remember you telling us that she likes her belly rubbed. They are very spoiled and have their own recliners. Thanks again for our dear Ruby."
January 2013. Happy 2nd Birthday Skwisgaar! Regina and Jeff sent this collage of photos for their little goofball's birthday. You are probably wondering as was I where they got the name Skwisgaar. It's a Swedish name and the name of a guitarist on one of their favorite shows. It's evident from the photos that he is very much loved and pampered. Thanks for the update Regina!
(Below) This is So'low. So'low is a hero! Here is the testimonial I received from his owner. "Just wanted to share a little story about what a good dog I got from you. Well, I've been pretty sick and one of the days I was really not doing so good, I had a cigarette burning in the ashtray, dozed off, and it fell out and was smoldering on the floor. So'low went nuts, barking, and carrying on. When he finally woke me up he was nudging and pulling on my sleeve so you can say, he saved my life. Needless to say, we have a very special bond!! I LOVE THAT DOG! He went to a good home!! He's a very happy dog!! Thank you very much!!"
July 2012: Happy 2nd Birthday Nutmeg! Can you be two already? Thanks for giving Nutmeg such a wonderful home and for your kind words, Lori."
"She's so sweet and funny. We baby her and as you can tell she gets lots of treats. She's very smart... she knows all our names and when we get near the places we walk her she starts whining to get out.We love her very much."
June 2012: We received this testimonial today. What an adorable photo! "I just wanted to thank you again for the wonderful dogs you have given my wife
and I. They are such a wonderful pair and we could not thank you more for the two of them. They have truly become part of our family and we couldn't imagine life without them. They love their new home and really enjoy living on a farm. They play so well together even though Watson is two and Lucy is three months. This is a fairly normal pose for the two of them."
June 2012: Received the nicest email today from Deanna who sent a photo of her 8 year old basset hound Buster. Deanna said, " I've never owned a dog before but as far as I'm concerned, he is the BEST dog anyone has ever owned! He is a perfect, gentle, laid back, loves to cuddle, humorous dog!" Thanks Deanna for giving Buster such a loving home
You just gotta love those gorgeous ears! That's Buster on the right.
We get more Christmas greetings from puppy owners than relatives. This handsome guy on the left will turn one in February 2012. His owners say:
This is our not so little anymore basset pup....as you can see he has claimed his favorite chair, he is the sweetest! Favorite past time is watching animal planet! Dislikes......Exercise! Favorite food......Bacon!
Here's Sherlock, he's such a smart pup he even wrote me an email to let me know that he was on vacation in Colorado. What a lucky pup!
Meet Cleopatra, queen of the couch. You can easily see
who gets the best spot. She is 2 1/2 years old and her
owners say " We came down from
the Twin Cities with our other basset
and fell in love with the puppy. We brought
her home and she has been absolutely
the best dog I have ever had.

Here are some pictures of her and know that when we go looking for our next dog (hopefully within the next few years), we will be going to your farm to get another wonderful little basset. :) Thank you!"
Annabelle lives in Bloomington, MN, which is located in the Twin Cities. Below are all pictures of Annabelle. The one on the right is Annabelle on an average day. The middle and left photos are of Annabelle on Halloween 2012 at the age of 6.
There's more than one gorgeous basset hound in Wabasha. Here's Mabel with ears that look like red velvet.
These three beauties grace the same household in southern Minnesota.
