Happy St. Paddy's Day everyone. it is now 1:30 a.m. I am on puppy watch duty. Chukha started having her puppies about noon (yesterday). My guess was that she would have 7 puppies. She really looked big to me. It's been slow going. One puppy at 1:00 p.m., second puppy at 4:00. I finally called the vet at 7:30 and thought sure we would be taking a trip in yet tonight. Chukha wasn't in any distress, ate a can of dog food, seemed to be just hanging out. So where are the other 5 puppies I expected! Dr. B. said as long as she wasn't having any problems, just to be patient and keep an eye on her. Sometimes it can take 24 hours. So I've been keeping an eye on her. Third puppy finally showed up around 10. At 1:15, still three but Chukha got up and inhaled the five hot dogs I brought for her. I'm beginning to think there are going to just be the three. She seems quite relaxed and contented. So i think I shall get some rest. This last week of spring weather has been just wonderful. It's so nice to be rid of the snow. I actually got a jump on some of the apple tree pruning and shrubbery pruning. Ugh, it appears that only 2 of the 6 hives that went into the winter have survived. That's is very disappointing.
