We have been very busy with puppies this winter and spring. A few weeks ago, I was contacted by a gentleman from Texas who was interested in a red and white husky puppy. We have only shipped a puppy once and it was at least 8 years ago. I just never really felt comfortable offering to ship....too many hurdles, too much concern about the safety of the puppy, just too much. For some reason after a number of emails, I felt comfortable with this gentleman to decide to find out what was all necessary, check into flights, etc. This person also agreed that the safety of the puppy was of the utmost importance. We needed to find the route with the fewest stops and the least layovers....a direct route would be the ideal. Unfortunately, that wasn't possible from my location. We did find a route from the Waterloo, Iowa, airport, to Chicago, and then to Houston. After obtaining the health record, acclimation statement, carrier, ticket, and exchanging 125 emails with the Texas Gent, all was in place for a 6:20 a.m. departure. We needed to leave home by 3:30 a.m. to be at the airport by 5:00 a.m. Unfortunately, it was very foggy so we left by 3:00 a.m. and arrived in enough time. There have been several tragic stories lately about pets on airlines not getting to their destinations safely. This puppy flew via American Airlines and their care was exceptional. She was allowed to run around behind the ticket counter prior to the flight so she was totally relaxed. (Keep in mind, this is a VERY small airport). We waited to make sure the flight was not going to be delayed due to the fog. The puppy arrived in Houston and Texas Gent was there to meet her. This turned out to be a very positive experience for all. This little Hawkeye puppy now has a wonderful home deep in the heart of Texas.
