Already the first of July, and the days are starting to get shorter. We have planted and weeded our vegetable crops. We have had abundant rain but have not drowned and have not had any hail. Betty and Petra blessed us with two healthy large litters, Betty with 8 and Petra with 10. We are busy and that is good. We have enough broiler chickens to fill for our own freezer when they are ready for processing. I will make an appointment tomorrow with Martzahn's Poultry Processing in Greene, Iowa. Bug is in 4H this year and has chosen a poultry project for the fair. Since he lives in town, his chickens are here. He has Sapphire Gem laying hens for one entry and Polish Cresteds for another entry. This is all new because none of us have any 4H fair experience so should be interesting. Hopefully he is learning to be part of a club and part of a team. Very soon we will start harvesting cucumbers, zucchini, and yellow squash.
