Ice is a magic element many kels struggle with due to the fact that kels are naturally warm-blooded. Many also find it to be uncomfortable to learn, as it often requires lowering the temperatures around you drastically. Without proper guidance kels can injure themselves with the intense cold. Kels are discouraged from practicing ice magic if melancholy or anxious, as this seems to make specifically ice spells more volatile.
Cyan lumi trees are hard to find as they only grow in extremely harsh and frigid climates. Even in snowy areas, the vicinity of cyan lumi trees always has increased snow fall. It's rumored that being near them strengthens ice spells.
Learning:
Kels who want to learn this spell start by putting themselves in chilly environments, to better understand what the chilliness feels like. This can take a lot of studying, as kels are naturally warm-blooded so you have to fight yourself to cool off! Alternatively, some kels will put up with very hot temperatures and focus on the sensation of the heat leaving their body.
Usage:
Cool Down is most commonly seen in the medical field, where it is applied to injuries along with Heat Up. It is also utilised by kels who live in warmer climates as a form of temperature control. Many chefs utilise it as it's also great for helping to keep foods fresh!
Limitations:
This spell will not freeze anything as the temperatures do not drop low enough. Kels who overuse this spell are prone to catching colds and fevers, and prolonged use can cause blood to slow, making it harder to move limbs.
Learning:
Kels who want to learn this spell usually master Cool Down first and then focus the sensation of cold, intensifying it. This focused point of cold can be used to freeze liquids with relatively low freezing points, like water. It is not advised to try to use this spell to walk on water, as when you are starting out the ice is very thin.
Usage:
Freeze Touch is a favourite spell of kels who work in the culinary field. It can be used to keep food much longer and to instantly cool hot dishes. Otherwise, the uses are more novel.
Limitations:
Liquids that are harder to freeze will be practically impossible for kels just starting out. Non-liquid items are effected differently depending on their water content. For example, a log would become extremely hard and brittle. A brick would not change. Many things expand or become fragile when frozen, so be careful! It's also wise to take breaks between use as the intense cold can cause nerve damage in the hands if overused.
Learning:
Kels learning this spell must focus on breathing cool air, usually in a chilly environment. After enough time studying the sensation of cool air entering the lungs, kels will try to maintain and enhance the cold as they breathe out. Success results in an exhale of a sparkly ice cloud.
Usage:
Frosted Breath is a combat skill that can become dangerous with enough refinement. Starting level can cause temporary blindness, think trying to navigate a blizzard. Practice can increase the intensity of the cold, the force of the air, and the distance it can travel. Kels have been known to use this in self defense, namely to freeze or slow an enemy to attack them or escape.
Limitations:
When starting, kels will likely be unable to make more than a puff of cold air. The chilling effect it gives does not last as long as Freeze Touch, so be very careful with that. Additionally, for those who have mastered the spell, intense stress or fear has been to cause Frosted Breath to be used even when not intended. Finally, overuse can cause coughing fits.
