Everything you need to know about them!
Pronounciation: Voo-dee-t
Plural: Vudits
A group of vudits: Thievery (A thievery of vudits)
Vudits are the most common predator found around Lelin'Kel. Their size ranges from small to massive, depending on the age of the individual. Vudit kits are keling sized and can easily be mistaken for a keling at a quick glance. Adult vudits look like larger kits, keeping a similar body shape but their body grows longer and loses the baby-like proportions.
Each individual is grey and white. However, they all have a unique accent colour on their face, ear tips and tail stripes, no vudit have the same colour there.
Vudits are carnivores and need meat in order to stay healthy. They usually hunt prey animals found in the forest, especially during the warmer months. However, as soon as the cold settles in and prey goes into hiding for the winter, more and more farmers are reporting missing cheep or mauled farmstock after a vudit passed through their farm.
However, vudits are not obligate carnivores and can eat fruits, veggies and even bread! Kels will sometimes see vudit kits snatch a fresh loaf of bread or a pie that was chilling by the window sill. While they try to steal food, they are not the brightest and will usually steal whatever they can get their paws on.
They will hide any stolen goods in their thick-furred tail. The tail will grow in size the more items it carries until it is full. You know a vudit's tail is full when the stripes are perfectly straight and no longer have folds in them.
Vudits live in small thieveries of 4-6 individuals—usually the parents and their kits. They will live in the same den and will protect it all their lives. Once the kits are weaned, they will leave the thievery and look for a mate of their own.
Vudit mating season is around the beginning of summer and the beginning of winter. A pregnant female will carry her kits for around two months before giving birth to a litter of 2-4 kits.
Vudits mate for life and if their partner were to pass away, they won't go looking for another one. However, that grief will cloud the vudit's mind and might lead it to steal kits from another couple.
Sometimes, a widowed vudit will have grief cloud their mind so much that they will undergo some sort of transformation, massively changing their body's size and shape. These vudits are extremely dangerous. While they do not have a specific name, kels usually call them either elder vudits or grief vudits. Their transformation happens over a winter, where the grief-stricken vudit takes an atypical hibernation period.
Here is the comparison between a regular vudit and a grief/elder vudit.
While vudits are the most common pest, there are some ways to keep them at bay.
First and foremost, all vudits are afraid of lumi trees. The tree repels any signs of malice or dark energy, and thus vudits are repelled by it. However, the tree's range is not often big enough to protect the entire town. To remedy to this, most towns and cities have a lumi barrier, which uses the lumi tree's orbs. The barrier will fully repel elder vudits.
For any mischievous kits that make it past the barrier, it is better to not keep items close to open windows. However, this precaution is mostly only recommended whenever vudit breeding seasons are over and more kits are popping left and right.
Elder vudits are quite rare. Due to the species low amount of predators, most vudit mates will live together happily until both die of natural causes. Even then, in the rare case of a couple being broken, not all widowed vudits end up as a monstrous creature.
Because of that fact, most elder vudits have been recorded in history and a few even became popular boogeyman to teach young kelings lessons.
Here are the known elder vudits that are found near playable towns/cities (more to be added as more towns/cities get added!)
Name given: Red the Scarred
Location: Lelin'Kel
Gender: Female
Red has been near Lelin'Kel for a few years now. She emerged a grief vudit after one of the worst winters the town had ever lived through.
When she first appeared, Linos recognised her as the one vudit surviving after he chased and unfortunately killed her thievery who had broken in the ranch, hunting for cheeps.
Linos had killed her mate and kits and she hates him with every fiber of her being. The two of them are in a never-ending battle.
