Not much is known about the Naga's history, at least anything that happened before the Great Flood. This flood destroyed the lands Nagas used to call home, forcing them to rebuild their civilization from the ground up. Along with the relocation, they had suffered many casualties, leaving many without a home and a family.
After months spent travelling the continent, a handful of naga settlements were created as they found desirable lands. As they rebuilt and regained stability, the Nagas living in those settlements developed a great sense of community and acted as if everyone were family. These tightly knit communities and the newfound protectiveness of their home due to losing their past one has led many of those settlements to fully close themselves off from non-nagas, fearing potential destruction of their land.
Nagas used to hold many riches and gold, but ever since it was all lost, they have focused on non-material treasures and traditions. This led to Nagas developing their creative and artistic sides, now being overly proud of their talents. It is said that a handmade trinket is the most thoughtful and meaningful gift you could receive from a Naga.
Over the recent years, some naga settlements have begun reopening to the world, sharing their culture and knowledge with travellers from everywhere. One of the most well-known settlements, S'Pentosa, is also one of the most recently created, being only a couple of centuries old. The unfortunate discovery of its location being in the middle of Tempesstonn Titan migration routes has forced them to open up and keep lines of communication with closer towns in case of emergencies. They have very recently asked Lelin'Kel for help after the last migration, and are now hosting a large portion of the S'Pentosan youth in the safe town while they repair and rebuild the town.
While more open to different subspecies, Nagas do tend to stay within naga settlements, as other subspecies settlements are not usually made with a serpentine body in mind. shivers stairs..... This causes Nagas to keep within their communities more.
Nagas haven't lost their sense of community and close-knit family bonds over the years. It has, in fact, gotten even stronger. While they are distrustful of strangers at first, if they consider you family, they would travel across the world for you. To them, kelings are the responsibility of both the parents and the community to raise and take care of.
Nagas are extremely proud of their hood. This hood can open and close along the side of the head. While an open hood is mainly used as a sign of aggressive behaviour, it can also subconsciously open following strong emotions. The only times it is socially acceptable to have your hood open when showing off adornments or decorations added to it, mainly during festivities and ceremonies. Nagas will also decorate the rest of their body using body paints and jewelry.
Like all akeli subspecies, Nagas reproduce solely using magic. The resulting eggs are, however, slightly different from the standard eggs. Unlike their hard-shelled cousins, naga eggs are more leathery and soft! This shell is still quite tough and cannot break easily, but it can still tear if rough-housed.
All naga kelings have an egg tooth while in the egg. This tooth, located between their two notches, is what allows them to slit open their eggshell when hatching. The tooth will detach itself soon after the keling hatches, as they flick their tongue a few times. While they still have it, their mouth looks like a standard's mouth but with a tiny middle notch!
All nagas share a stronger link with earth magic than any other species of kels. They have extreme ease learning earth spells as it feels almost like second nature for them. It is theorised that their original home was once a magnificent and lush jungle.
Naga kels surprisingly lack whiskers, contrary to other akeli subspecies. To make up for that lack, they instead have Magic Pits. Many are curious as to why they show such difference, ending up theorising that their hood covered and blocked the whiskers too much. Having the pits above their lips allows them to have their full magic sense when their hood is down!
A naga's pits will glow when using magic. The same goes for Kels who also inherited the trait!
All nagas hatch with two teeny tiny fangs that will ultimately develop into the thin venom fangs we all know and love. Once they hit puberty, their venom has finished developing and will coat the tip of those fangs a bright colour, the colour of their venom!
While there is no anti-venom known for Naga venom, it is also non-deadly. While its effects are undesirable, they pose no threat to a kel's overall health and the effects should fully wear off within 24 hours. Nagas are also immune to their own venom.
Nagas are mainly known to bite as a way to inject venom into their prey or opponent, but they can also spit droplets at a short distance. While skin contact is not dangerous, would the venom find its way inside the body, then the effects will start to happen.
