Little is known of fae history. Those who mingle with other kels rarely speak of it. It seems to be a rather touchy subject.
What is known is that the fae have been isolated for a very long time, long enough for the rest of kelkind to think of them as nothing more than legends. They are believed to originate from somewhere far, far away. Wherever they were, there were only fae settlements and not a single kel of any other kind.
Though never outright stated, it's heavily implied that fae culture heavily villainizes all other kels. The fae of Lelin'Kel seemed genuinely taken aback by how kind and civil the folk were. They strongly deny this being the case when asked, but the avoidance of eye contact tells another story.
Today
Fae are exclusively found in and around Lelin'Kel. No other city, town, or settlement has fae! Because of this, the fae have adopted many Lelin'Kel customs.
The fae of today are exceptionally curious, as the world we know is still quite new to them. This can lead some to feel alone, like they do not belong. More anxious fae tend to continue isolating, albeit around Lelin'Kel where they do still interact sometimes.
Fae have many unique traditions, most of which leave other kels tilting their head in confusion. Fae have a set of "rules" they follow but refuse to fully inform others on. Something about words and knowledge having power over others? What is known is that fae love to test others. If there is a conflict, it will likely be resolved with a test, trial, battle, or adventure.
Hospitality is of utmost importance to the fae. This means all fae are incredible hosts and guests. Fae will not enter a home unless directly invited to do so. Fae will not eat anything you give them unless you specify that the food is for them. They expect this of others, too, and will be deeply offended and/or confused if you come inside before being told you can or immediately eat food off a table. Failure to be hospitable is considered an invitation for mischief.
Some known "rules" that Lelin'Kel residents learned the hard way:
Shoes are forbidden; you should always be grounded with the world.
Eye contact is seen as a challenge; you only look at others in the eyes if you want to challenge them somehow.
If you haven't been welcomed into fae-owned territory, BUT you need to pass through, you can walk backwards through it to avoid being mischiefed.
If you take something from a fae when they have not explicitly stated you could, you are considered to be in debt to them and must repay your theft.
Rejecting a gift is one of the worst things you can do; it's like saying you dislike/hate the giver. They, in turn, cannot reject gifts either.
There are more rules, but those have yet to be discovered. You're free to come up with your own! Rules may vary depending on the individual.
Breeding and Eggs
Like all kels, reproduction is a completely magical process. Fae eggs are very similar to standard eggs, albeit slightly smaller and usually slightly pointier at one end. It should be noted that fae eggshells are very fragile, meaning fae eggs must be handled with even more care.
Magic Proficiency - Honed Specialists
Fae are unique from other kels in that their magic is limited. They can only know two elements for their entire life. That being said, the link they have with magic is beyond potent. Fae are known to be some of the most powerful spellcasters.
Fae have very large whiskers compared to standard kels. This is due to the surplus magic they have stored inside them. It is thought that kels that inherit this trait will also have more potent magic.
A fae's antennae are tied to their magic as well. It is theorised that, similar to how they need bigger whiskers to store their excess magic, the antennae are needed to properly channel that magic.
