How to Apply Upgrades

After you've gained a few akis, you might want to check out how to apply upgrades! That way, your Akeli will become more complex and unique! However, you cannot apply any upgrade at any time, there are some requirements to do before you can apply them to your Akeli!

Even if you grow up your Kel into an Akeling, they can still get Keling upgrades! The same goes for Akelis with Keling and Akeling upgrades! No need to worry about getting all the upgrades you want before growing up your beloved characters!

Let's deconstruct the upgrades qualifications of Fluffy Whiskers to learn how to apply upgrades!

First of all, we have the big picture showing us examples for the upgrade!

Then, there is the name of the upgrade in big letters, make sure to write it correctly when submitting your upgrade art, since not all evolving species groups use the different names for similar upgrades!

Then, right under the name is a little text in italics, this is just a fun quote to add personality!

Under that, we have what is really important! The requirements to qualify for the upgrades! Let's go through each section one by one.

Aki Needed - The number of akis needed before you can apply the upgrade. This number must be reached BEFORE applying the upgrade.

Age Requirement - The age your kel needs to reach before applying the upgrade. Their age is the day their application is submitted, so make sure to never delete the application! The upgrade can be applied as soon as they reach the age needed. When applying for an age-related upgrade, please link their application in the description of the upgraded art!

Other Requirements - These are often art or story requirements. Art requirements must be drawn before doing the upgrade art, while story requirements can be posted in the upgrade art description. All other types of requirements must be met before applying the upgrade.

Rules - Rules relating to the upgrade. If these rules are broken, a moderator will message you and ask you to fix the problems.

Art requirements must be at least coloured art (digital) or be clean/have lineart done (traditional).

Coloured art includes: Regular colours, palette swaps, black-and-white.

Upgrade Art Rules

When doing upgrade art, there are a few rules to follow.

1. Sketches aren't allowed for upgrade art. While they are allowed for requirements, they do not count for the upgrade art itself. A coloured partial without shading is the minimum requirement for upgrade arts.

2. No palette challenges. While they are allowed for requirements, we need to see your kel's actual colour for the upgrade art.

3. The picture must show the upgrades accurately.

4. The applied upgrade must be shown in the picture. Applied upgrades that are 'not shown' will not count.

5. Colour upgrades have special and unique rules that can be found on their upgrade page. 

6. Art requirements must be using your kel's most recent design at the time of posting the art.

7. When submitting an upgrade art, please fill in this form and post it in the description.

Removing and Re-Applying upgrades

Now, giving upgrades to your character is fun and all but, what if you get new ideas for your character? What if you don't like the upgrade anymore? What if you just want to switch the way it looks or where markings are placed? Then I have great news for you, there is an easy way to move and remove it!

1. You do not need a minimum of akis to move/remove upgrades.

2. To move or remove upgrades, there are a few rules to follow!

3. You must have 5 deviations of your kel displaying the upgrade you want to be moved or removed.

4. Link those 5 deviations in the description of the upgrade move/removal.

5. Must be applied through art, art rules follow the rules of upgrade art.

6. If moving/removing multiple upgrades at once, you must fill in the form for each upgrade.

​7. You must then fill in this form and put it in the move or remove art description.

Requirement Bypass

You may have noticed that underneath each upgrade, there's a set of clovers! This is for the requirement bypass items: Lucky Clover and Golden Clover.

In order to use a Lucky Clover or a Golden Clover, you must fill in the right form in the #item-use channel over on discord.

Here are the three symbols and what they mean!

This symbol means that this upgrade can have its requirement bypassed using a Lucky Clover!

✤

This symbol means that this upgrade can have its requirement bypassed using a Golden Clover!

Golden Clovers also be used to apply upgrades marked with the Lucky Clover icon!

⦸

This symbol means that this upgrade is not available for requirement bypass!

What about accessories and clothing?

While these used to be upgrades, they are now free to apply to any of your kels! There are some rules to follow however:

1. The clothing pieces must not be used to mimic an upgrade. If they are similar to an upgrade, it must look obviously fake.

2. Do not add clothing to apps. Breeding refs must have a naked fullbody (unique from the front and back views).
