Betsy Pedraza is a first-generation Mexican American from Los Angeles. She is currently in her fourth year at UCSD, pursuing a degree in International Studies Economics. Her passion lies at the intersection of economic development and data analysis. Betsy is actively engaged as a data analyst and was recently appointed program director at a non-profit organization dedicated to providing affordable housing and access to healthcare to diverse communities in Los Angeles, with a special emphasis on seniors.
Betsy's Islamic identity sometimes contrasts with her Mexican heritage, yet she finds solace in her cultural roots, particularly through Mexican cuisine. At her dinner table, maize has always been a fundamental component, whether in the form of tortillas, atole, or other dishes. Betsy aims to explore the historical, cultural, and economic importance of maize in Mexico.
