Welcome to my ANSC 184 blog. I will be posting about foods that I like and foods that I am becoming familiar with while learning about Finnish culture and customs. This is a picture of me, my wife Linda, and our son Björn (Pronounced: B + Yearn) who was born on 3/10/2023! My wife and I love trying new foods and plan on sharing culture and food with our son. Linda's side of the family is from Finland and my side is from Spain. We have quite a mix of traditional foods that we bring to the table and we love to share them with our family and friends.
Thanks for a great quarter, everyone!

When someone asks me to cook a family dish I think back to my grandmother and what she has been cooking for me since I was a little baby boy. Part of my family is from New Mexico and when my grandmother married my grandfather she learned how to cook all of the New Mexican recipes from his mother. She wrote everything down meticulously on the days she learned how to cook in the 1940s and has passed down the recopies to the family in, the Salazar Family Cook Book. To the right is my favorite family recipe that I cook. It has deep roots in my family heritage and uses local native plants to cook with. It is a tradition in my family that whoever is marrying into the family must be able to handle the heat of this dish to become a Salazar! This is an excerpt from the family cookbook that was published in 1994.
