There are many possibilities for a full-time student to make money in college. Read our best tips on how to make extra money as a college student. You don’t have to be broke just because you’re a college student.
There are numerous ways to earn money as a student, and they go far beyond the stereotypical student jobs of delivering pizza and working fast food.
How to make money while in College
So, here are 20 ways to make extra money in college without sacrificing sleep or study time by working a late shift:
1. Get a Work-study Job
You may be eligible for a work-study position on campus if you submit your FAFSA.
The part-time job is government-funded and is intended to give you time to work while also completing schoolwork.
Working at the front desk of a dorm or doing administrative work in the student union building are common jobs.
2. Tutor other Students
Do you excel in a specific subject? To earn some extra money as a college student, consider tutoring another student or one of your peers.
For opportunities, contact your university’s employment office or a department head, as well as other local schools.
You can also sign up to be a tutor on websites like HelpHub, where you can set your own tutoring rate and terms.
3. Edit and Proofread your Peer’s Papers
Editing and proofreading your peers’ papers is an excellent way to earn money in college.
Writing essays is one of the most difficult tasks for many students in college, especially if English is not their first language.
Offer your services as an editor or proofreader to other students if you have strong writing skills.
4. Apply to be a Residence Advisor (RA)
As a residence advisor, or “RA,” you will provide emotional support and leadership to your dormmates.
It is your responsibility to foster a positive living environment by encouraging community involvement, educating fellow students about dorm policies, and ensuring that maintenance issues are addressed as soon as possible.
You’ll also gain valuable leadership skills in this role, which will help you in your future career. In most cases, your room and board will be complimentary!
5. Become a Campus Tour Guide
Consider becoming a campus tour guide if you are outgoing, enjoy meeting new people, and are enthusiastic about your school.
You’ll have the opportunity to show prospective students around campus and tell them what you like about the school.
Admissions officers frequently require additional assistance in dealing with questions from students and their families.
This is an excellent way to share your knowledge with other students who want to follow in your footsteps.

Ways to Make Money in College
College can be expensive, so it’s advantageous to be able to earn money while attending classes.
This post discusses ways to make money in college — without missing a class. There are:
1. Become a Notary Public and Loan Signing Agent
This is one of my favorite “unusual” ways to make money, particularly for college students.
Working as a Loan Signing Agent is a great way to make money in college because you can earn $75 to $200 per hour working for yourself on your own time.
Students can work as signing agents and earn extra money whenever they want.
The best part is that you only need a notary commission (which is often obtained by simply filling out an application)!
2. Become a Virtual Assistant
Another excellent way to make money online is to work as a virtual assistant.
Many people and businesses are looking to outsource “assistant-type” tasks such as email response, basic writing and organization, research tasks, and more.
Consider becoming a virtual assistant if you want to do this type of work online and earn several hundred dollars or more per month.
Take a look at this course on How to Become a Virtual Assistant.
3. Sell Gigs on Fiverr
Fiverr is a website where you can sell your gigs for $5 (and make $4).
It may not appear to be a lucrative way to make money, but it is. In fact, we highlight how, if you’re wise, you can use Fiverr to pay off your student loan debt.
4. Do Microgigs on Amazon Mechanical Turk
Amazon’s Mechanical Turk is another popular site for earning money doing gigs.
You are paid very little per gig (sometimes as little as $0.05), but you can complete these tasks very quickly.
You might be asked to identify a picture or type a specific text, for example. I used to do these gigs in class to earn money while taking notes when I was in college.
5. Do Online Design Work
You could do online design work for websites and businesses if you’re an artist with a talent for graphic design.
This could range from creating small graphics for advertisements to completely redesigning a website.
To get started, check out a site like 99Designs, where you can enter design competitions and if you’re selected as the winner, you get paid.
