Observational Hallway Drawing

Leaking

12x18

For my Observational Hallway Drawing, I used the 2B soft pencil, 6B hard pencil, acrylic paint and water, and markers. I used the 2B for sketching and drawing the perspective lines so it could be erased easily. I chose a harder pencil to clean up the lines and erased the linear lines. I experimented with using the linear perspective technique by using it to make a base for the entire project, the lockers, the pillars, the ceiling, and floor tiles, etc. My project evolved from a light sketch to a colorful hallway.

I used lines to create the hallway from the vanishing point. I added color to create an under the sea feel. I created balance and unity by making the hallway detailed on all four sides, and emphasis at the and of the hallway, where there is a pop of color.

The idea of this piece is a hallway that is somehow submerged in water. Although it is hard to see, there is a whale in the window at the end of the hallway and leaking water coming from a few places. It doesn't have a story because it was a specific assignment. It relates to my life because I love the ocean, I find it creepy and incredible. I'm proudest of my first sketch before I added color. It was very detailed and precise, but when I didn't have watercolor, things got a little ugly. I struggled with color, as I said I realized I didn't have watercolor at home, so I mixed acrylic paint with water. As you can see, it covered up most of the original detail and became very blotchy. I would definitely not recommend it, but at least I have learned that that does not work.
