Autumn Leaves
12x9
For my negative space leaf drawing I chose the 2B soft pencil and a 4B hard pencil. I used the 2B for sketching and outlining so it could be erased easily. I then used a sharpie to clean up the lines. I also used watercolor to create fall morning colors fading into a starry night. This time, instead of making a negative space drawing we could almost draw the shapes of the leaves. I experimented by using the space technique, looking at the space in between my object more than usual. My project evolved from a light sketch to defined shapes with a colorful back round.
I used lines to emphasis the shape of the leaves. I used texture by including all the stars and holes in the leaves. I created unity and color by adding the sunset/rise colors on the back round.
The idea of this piece is the negative space of leaves in the fall sky. It doesn't have a story because it was a very specific assignment. I guess you could say that it related to my life because I like sunsets so I drew one. I'm proudest of drawing my leaves, I think I did a pretty good job making them look realistic and proportional, especially the fern. I struggled with making the fern, look normal although, but I focused on it and figured it out, it just took time.
