Editoral Cartoon

"Amy Coney Barrett"

For my editorial cartoon, I used photoshop. I experimented by using photoshop again, using different tools. I traced a picture of Amy Coney Barrett being sworn in and then added another layer to add text and another to add the handmaiden's tale bonnet on. My project evolved from a sketch on paper to a clean, meaningful, cartoon.

I used space to emphasize the point of the art. I created contrast by making the background a dark color compared to the light colors of Amy.

The idea of this piece is trying to depict Amy Coney Barrett as a figure in the Handmaiden's Tale. I did this because, in my opinion, her views are scarily alike to the dystopian novel and t.v show where many people's rights are taken away. I wanted to show the similarities through art. This relates to my life because as a woman, I am terrified for my reproduction rights. I'm proudest of the idea, I really like how simple and comparative it is. I struggled with making the bonnet look normal although, but I focused on it and figured it out.
