Elements and Design Drawing

For my Elemen and Design drawing, I decided to use balance and value and chose a sharpie. I used the 2B for sketching and outlining so it could be erased easily. I incorporated the value with pointillism and really emphasized the highlight and contour in the woman's face. For balance, I just sketched out the face with a ruler so everything would be balanced which I don't usually do. I experimented by using the pointillism technique, I've seen many artists use it and it looked so fun, so I finally decided it was the perfect time to use it to show value. My project evolved from a light sketch to a contrasted pointillism drawing.

I incorporated the value with pointillism and really emphasized the highlight and contour in the woman's face. I used balance by trying to keep the features and contour the same on both sides, also by adding the lovely hijab instead of visible hair to look cleaner and more balanced. I also used a lot of contrast with a variety of values.

The idea of this piece is to portray an element and principle of design, It doesn't really have a story because it was a very specific assignment. It related to my life because I really wanted to use pointillism and I think hijabs are so pretty. I'm proudest of drawing the contour on the face, I think I did a pretty good job making it look realistic and proportional. I struggled with making her lips look normal although, but I focused on it and am fine with them now.
