SI#4

For this assignment I followed my lead question, 'how can I make fashion from reused materials. For my first sustained investigation, I was inspired by the trend of bucket hats coming back into style again. My mom used to work at LL.bean and had tons of sample fabric from her time there. They have stayed in our basement for about 7 years until I dug them out. From there I knew I wanted to make my own fabric from the scraps.

I started to cut the scraps into different-sized pieces and sewed them together using my sewing machine. This was a really tedious process, but it was definitely worth it. Once I got all my patchwork fabric sewn together, I made my patterns which are in the last photo. I sewed the sections together, and then finished the neckline, waistband, and the end of the sleeves.

I experimented with making long sleeves, usually, I leave my creations sleeveless because sleeves are a little more complicated. It turned out pretty well for my first time, taught me a lot. That was definitely my biggest problem, but overall it was within my capabilities. I really enjoyed watching this come together, literally piece by piece.
