"Filthy Lies"
For my DADA inspired collage, I used a lot of magazines including Vogue, Bloomberg BusinessWeek, and some Maine magazines. I used scraps of these magazines (either ripped or cut) and looked for symbolism, words, letters or colors. I experimented with using several shades of blue to create a dramatic back of a woman and fabricated pieces for her hair. My project evolved from just a woman's back to a busy chaotic collage.
I used lines, texture, movement, and colors to create this collage. I also used value, unity, by including all the details of the ocean, the woman in the middle and the burning cash.
The idea of this piece is as the collage says (although this is hard to find and I also accidentally cut it off in the picture) “filthy lies”. Obviously I don't have much experience in the designer brand industries, but I do know that tricking people into thinking they need to pay the amount of money they charge is a lie. It relates to my life because I love the ocean and at home, I have multiple paintings of this girl in the middle, she is fascinating to me for some reason. I'm proudest of the hands, I think they ad a little reputation even if they don't mean anything. I struggled with finding meaning to the collage, I didn’t have much inspiration from the few magazines we had at our house.
