3D art

In what ways does your work illustrate your strengths and weaknesses as a learner?

In my 3D portfolio, my weaknesses are completely on display for some projects. Things like the sgraffito and paper relief, show what I am not so good at. Although I am grateful I had the opportunity to improve these skills, the other side of my portfolio showcases my strengths. The sustained investigations show my strengths with sewing, problem-solving, and planning in 3D. My craftsmanship has gone from a hot glue and paper mess to a seamlessly finished crewneck.

What was the most challenging project and why?

my SI 2 and 3 (the dress) was definitely the most difficult. I faced many challenges, such as not having enough fabric, finding reusable materials, teaching myself how to sew with my limited knowledge, and making all the elements fit on the curved body, and not a 2D flat surface. This project also took much longer than I estimated. It honestly created a lot of anxiety for me, all the deadlines were passing by me, and with work, practice, and other homework, I fell behind. But in the end, I made it work, and passed it in.

-What project are you most proud of and why?

as much as I was fed up with my dress, the outcome is something bigger and more intricate than I've ever done. It looks pretty simple on the outside, but it took a painstaking amount of planning, prepping, problem-solving, and most of all, time. These two projects together probably took me 20, maybe 30 hours. Several weekends were dedicated to this dress. I am pretty happy with how it came out, so this is the project (s) I am most proud of.

What are your artistic goals for the summer/future?

Last summer, during quarantine I converted an old shed into my studio. Of course, it's not insulated and I can only use it during the warm season. My plan this summer is to open it back up. I also want to make some bigger paintings, as well as continue my sustained investigation trend. Making fashion is a big goal of mine and I usually have lots of time to do it in the summer.
