IDENTIFY THE TICK

It is important to remember that ticks can carry many organisms and are not limited to harboring just one or two. Mice, for example, can be infected with over 90 different diseases. If a tick feeds on an animal with multiple known or unknown diseases, one or more may be transmitted as it feeds on humans. To see some nice photos of ticks please click here.

The American dog tick (Dermacentor variabilis) can transmit many diseases.

Deer tick larva, nymph and adult

Blacklegged (or deer) ticks (Ixodes scapularis and Ixodes pacificus) can transmit several tick-borne diseases.
