NCHIP ’10 is the first such event being organised by the Department of Computer Applications and the Department of Computer Science and Engineering of VAST. As late Dr. D. Balakrishnan (Academic Director, VAST), has rightly pointed out in his message:

”Holding a national seminar involves the shouldering of a huge burden of responsibilities vis-a-vis contacting the authors for

presentation of papers, getting the papers scrutinized and selection for presentation, inviting experts in the field for delivering key-note lectures and the actual conduct of the event to the satisfaction of all.”

In response to our call for submission of papers, we received more than a hundred papers for presentation in the Conference. All the papers were reviewed by an Expert Committee which included experts from institutions of national importance. Based on their recommendations, about fifty papers were selected for presentation in the Conference.

Vidya International Charitable Trust (VICT), the body managing VAST, were generous in their financial and other support for organising this Conference. The local chapter of Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE) also gave some financial support. The Computer Society of India helped in defining the academic contours of the Conference.The Parent-Teacher Association of VASTalso gave some monetary support to the programme.

Several distinguished persons gave invited talks during the Conference. The Conference was inaugurated by Sri. Siddhartha Bhattacharya (CEO, InfoPark, Cochin).

The paper presentation sessions were chaired by Dr. R. Vijayakumar (Professor, NSS College of Engineering, Palakkad), Dr. M N Agnisarman Namboodiri (Professor& HOD–CSE, Vidya Academy of Science & Technology), Dr. Leena Mary (Professor, RIT, Kottayam) and Dr. Gylson Thomas (Professor, MES College of Engineering, Kuttipuram). Based on the received feedback, the conference was a success as it could meet its objectives. Favorable comments were received for the organizing committee for the well conduct of the conference.
