15. Participation Certificates dispatched

As promised, and as recommended by the Judging Committee, the Organising Committee has issued Participation Certificates to all participants who have submitted genuine solutions to the problem of the Contest. The Committee completed the dispatch of all the certificates on 10 November. 2011. if any of the contestants have not received the Certificates so far he/she may contact the Convener of the Organising Committee. 14. Report : Oral Presentation and Prize Distribution Ceremony

Oral presentation

The oral presentation of Prize Distribution Ceremony of the Alla Kerala C Coding Contest 2011 was held on Friday, 04 November 2011.

Of the five short-listed participants, only four participants reported for the oral presentation of their solutions. Sharat M R, a short-listed candidate from NSS College of Engineering, Palakkad, could not attend the function as he had to appear for a TCS Campus Recruitment Drive in his College on the same day.

The Oral presentations were made in the Computer lab of the Department. Dr V N Krishnachandran, Head of Department of Computer Applications, Ms Sunitha C and Mr Shanil K, Assistant Professors in the Department of Computer Science and Organising Committee Members were present in the Lab during the oral presentations. Ms Sunitha and Mr Shanil were part of the Judging Committee formed to evaluate the solutions. Ms Snitha was the Convener of the Judging Committee.

The presentations began at 11.00 am as scheduled. It was a "chalk and duster" presentation without any external aids. The first presentation was by Ms Rintu Jose from Viswajyothi College of Engineering and Technology, Muvattupuzha. It was followed by the presentation by Mr Alphonse Kurian from the same College. Mr Ajith G from Carmel Engineering College, Pathanamthitta, was the third to present the solution. Mr Pankaj Kumar G from FISAT, Angamaly, was the last. It was an interesting experience for the panel of experts present to listen to the presentations.

The list of Prize Winners was finalised based on the quality of solutions and the quality of presentations.

Prize Distribution Ceremony

The Prize Distribution Ceremony was held in the Main seminar hall of the College. It was a simple ceremony. Dr S P Subramanian, Principal, presided over the function and Dr P Prathapachandran Nair, Dean, gave away the prizes. Mr Paul Chakola, Placement Director felicitated the Prize Winners..The Prize Winners talked about their experiences in participating in the Contest. Dr V N Krishnachandran delivered the welcome speech and Ms Reji C Joy proposed a vote of thanks.

5. More time to solve the problem

Top

Due to enormous requests from several prospective participants who are presently busy with University Examinations, the Organising Committee has decided to extend the last time and date for the receipt of solutions to 11.00 am on 27 October 2011. So contestants have more time to struggle with the problem. But the Organising Committee reminds all that a correct solution received earlier would have a better chance of bagging the First Prize.

4. Great exciting news: Every short-listed candidate to receive a cash prize

Top

The VAST Chapters of Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE) and Computer Society of India (CSI) have agreed to be co-sponsors of the All Kerala C Coding Contest. Accordingly the Organising Committee of the Contest has decided to increase the number of cash prizes for the event. The Committee has decided to award a cash prize of Rs.1000/ to three of the five short-listed candidates. These awards together with the cash awards for the First and Second Prize winners make the total number of cash award winners equal to the number of short-listed candidates.

So every short-listed candidate can look forward to receiving a cash prize definitely!

2. First Announcement

The Department of Computer Applications of Vidya Academy of Science and Technology, Thrissur successfully organized an All Kerala C Coding Contest in 2009 and also in 2010.

The Department of Computer Applications is organizing its annual “ALL KERALA C CODING CONTEST” in 2011 also. This being the third in the series. The contest is open to all bona-fide students studying in engineering colleges/arts and science colleges/university teaching departments. The contest carries a First Prize of Rs.5000/-, a Second Prize of Rs.2,500/- and a Third Prize of Rs.1000/-

The problem and detailed rules regarding submission of solutions will be published in this website on 18 October 2011 at 11.00am. The participants need not come to Vidya Academy to participate in the contest. They need only solve the problem in their leisure at their homes or colleges and submit the solutions as e-mail attachments. The solutions must be received not later than 02.00 pm on 24 October 2011.

All contestants who submit programs indicating a genuine attempt at solving the problem, will be awarded with 'Participation Certificates'.

A Judging Committee will make an initial screening of all the submitted solutions. The Committee is expected to prepare the list of contestants to whom Participation Certificates are to be issued. The Committee will also prepare a short list of five contestants to be invited to Vidya Academy to make oral chalk-and-duster presentations of their solutions. The prizes will be decided based on the quality of the presentations also.

All short-listed candidates will awarded cash prizes.
