The Lab has been designated as

the Software Lab of IBM Software Centre of Excellence.

Vidya is the first institution under Calicut University

to secure this distinction.

Vidya is the third College in Kerala State

to have such a Centre.

The background

Global forces are altering the educational landscape as India faces a serious skills shortage in the technology industry.

Through the IBM Academic Initiative, IBM is working with colleges and universities across the country to teach students the open-standards skills they’ll need to compete in the ever-changing technology workplace.

This initiative offers a wide range of technology education benefits that can be scaled to meet the goals of most educational institutions, ranging from large research universities to local community colleges.

What's more, it can provide the resources needed to create more competitive academic programs and more highly skilled students.

The objectives

The IBM Software Centre of Excellence aims at increasing the skill sets of the faculty and students of the college, leading to:

    • Improvement in the quality of technical education
    • Increase in the employability of students
    • Placing the college in a leadership position

The benefits for the college and students

    • The IBM Software Centre of Excellence enables the College to conduct training for students through faculty enabled by IBM.
    • Through the IBM Software Centre of Excellence, IBM will give the College the software required for the training program free of cost.

    • 4-days instructor-led Lotus Domino Workshop for S3 MCA (2010 Admissions) students and staff during 25 -28 April 2012 (more >>).
      • 3-days instructor-led DB2 9.7 Academic Workshop for S8 B Tech CSE (2008 admissions) students and staff during 06-07 March 2012 (more >>).

During the academic year 2010 - 2011

      • 4-days instructor led Rational Application Developer (RAD) Training Program for S8 B Tech CSE (2007 admissions) during 22 February 2011. (more >>)
