Report on IBM DB2 Training Program for S4 MCA Students

IBM Academic Initiative is an innovative program to partner with colleges and universities worldwide to better educate millions of students for a more skilled and competitive IT workforce.

A initial round of discussion was conducted on 16-Jun-10 by Dr. M N Agnisarman Namdoodiri (HOD – CSE), Dr. V N Krishnachandran (HOD – MCA), Mr. Kaushik M (AP-CSE) and Mr. Mohammad M Shiddique (IT Specialist - AI/Rational SEED Program, IBM India Pvt Ltd) regarding the conduct of IBM Academic Initiative programme at Vidya Academy of Science & Technology.

IBM has also proposed branding the existing computer lab as IBM Software Centre of Excellence Lab, subjected to specific condition that at least 100 students should be IBM certified.

As a part of the IBM Academic Initiative from IBM, DB2 training program was conducted for S4 MCA students on August 5 – 7, 2010. The 3 day training was conducted by Mr. Mohammad Adnan Khan from Vinsys IT Services (I) Pvt. Ltd, Pune under the co-ordination of Mr. Dijesh P (Sr. Lecturer - MCA). After the training programme, 1st mock test (online) was conducted on 11-Aug-10 and 2nd test (online qualifying exam) was conducted on 13-Aug-10.

The final online test was conducted on 17-Aug-10. Students wrote the exam in Prometric online examination system, which was proctored by Mr. Mohammad M Shiddique of IBM. Out of 49 candidates appeared, 33 have cleared the online exam. The pass percentage is 67.34%. All students who have cleared the test will be getting certificates from IBM.

Mr. Mohammad M Shiddique was impressed by the performance of the students and the infrastructure facility. Another training session is planned for the S7 CSE students.
