Circa 1861- Asbury Cemetery

Location: 5064 Asbury Cemetery Road, Knoxville

First of all, I must say that I don't know exactly when this cemetery was established. I haven't been able to find a more definite date online. However, there is a sign at the entrance that says "Est. Before The Civil War." Since the Civil War started in 1861, I assume that this cemetery was established some time before that. I suppose that instead of saying "Circa 1861," I should say "Pre-1861," but then I wouldn't know under which decade to put this page. So let's just go with the 1860s!

The website FindAGrave.com has a page for Asbury Cemetery. I could go down the list of interments there to see which one is the oldest listed and go with that date. However, there are 2,759 interments listed! It would take forever to go through it all. If I am able to pin down a specific date for the cemetery's establishment, I'll come back here and add it.
