Circa 1817- Gibbs Family Cemetery

The Gibbs Family Cemetery was established around 1817, upon the death and burial of Nicholas Gibbs, Sr.

Location: Near the intersection of Emory Road and Openview Lane, just west of Tazewell Pike, in Knoxville. The cemetery is behind a house at 7405 E. Emory Road, on the north side of the road.

There is a historic marker out on Emory Road, in front of the cemetery, and it reads:

"Nicholas Gibbs

Born in Germany in 1733, he served in the French and Indian War, later in the Revolution. He took up a homestead of 450 acres here in 1792 and built the log cabin which stands about 1/2 mile east. A member of Knox County's first court, he died in 1817, and is buried on the hill 50 yards north."
