The Tipton-Maxey-Berry House was built around 1810 and renovated around 1872.

Location: 3415 Maryville Pike, Knoxville

According to the Knoxville/Knox County Metropolitan Planning Commission's "2012 South County Sector Plan," the Tipton-Maxey-Berry House was originally built around 1810 and then renovated around 1872.

The same document also says about this house, "The central portion of this house is a two-story log structure which was located on land owned by Reuben Tipton and acquired from 1790 to 1819. The log house may have been built by Reuben or his son William (“Fightin’ Billy”) Tipton. The house was standing in 1872, when it was acquired by Christopher C. and Edward N. Maxey. The frame additions were made by the Maxeys. Willie Jones Berry inherited the property from Maxey around 1900. The house is significant for its historic associations with early settlement (the Tiptons), the Civil War (Maxey) and Knox County government (Berry), as well as its architecture” (p. 63).
