Circa 1813-1815, & 1865- Badgett-Russell House

Also known as Maple Bend, the Badgett-Russell House was built around 1813-1815, and then significantly updated and modified in 1865.

Location: 4405 Topside Road, Knoxville

According to the Knoxville/Knox County Metropolitan Planning Commission's "2012 South County Sector Plan,":

“The Badgett-Russell House, also known as Maple Bend, is named for Burwell F. Badgett. He built the first section of the house in 1813, using timber frame construction and noggin infill. The house was inherited by Badgett’s granddaughter, Catherine Russell (married to Dr. John L. Russell), who made the first major changes to the house. The house was located at a ford on the Tennessee River and next to Louisville Road (now Topside Road)” (p. 64).

I haven't had the opportunity to go out and photograph this house yet. In the meantime, here is a screen shot that I saved from Google Maps. Knox Heritage also has a good picture of the Badgett-Russell House in its Picasa web album of antebellum homes. Click here to see it.
