Circa 1806, 1832, 1890- Flenniken House

The Flenniken House was built around 1806, and renovated around 1832 and 1890.

Location: 1513 Maryville Pike (TN-33)

According to the Knoxville/Knox County Metropolitan Planning Commission's "2012 South County Sector Plan," the Flenniken House was built around 1806. Here's what that document says about the house:

“This timber frame house was built as a one-story structure facing a stage road which later became Maryville Pike. The house was built by James Wallace Flenniken. Additions to the house were made around 1832, when a second story was added, and in 1890 by William Peery Flenniken, who added a rear ell. Eastlake detailing was also added around 1890. The house shows early settlement and construction, and the importance of Maryville Pike as a transportation corridor” (p. 63).

I haven't had the opportunity to go out and photograph this house yet. In the meantime, here is a screen shot that I saved from Google Maps. Knox Heritage also has a good picture of the Flenniken House in its Picasa web album of antebellum homes. Click here to see it.
