still night
blue midnight highway
straightjacketed railroadtrack.
loops of passages
weave in/out time tunnels
as car and driver settle into the rush of wind
musing about home somewhere out there.
still night
drunken Noho bar
drunken car
driver nods off fighting sleep
prisoner marching to the gallows
sensing this night will be gone forever.
then grappling with consciousness
driver slips away
he and car moving together
jilted lovers gone mad
straightjacketed railroadtrack
adrift in eternal sleep.
throughout a labyrinth of streets
driver and car race out of control
machine and man moving together
only rushing wind ahead
loops of passages
out of control.
and dawn awakes
swallowing another thirsty passenger
the City’s inevitable time tunnel
dressed in death’s black river and yellow mountains,
no exit.
