disparate
divergent souls
inhaling each other’s wind,
exhaling knives of ice
slashing innocent hearts,
chunks of forgotten sweetbread
disparate
disembodied souls
emptying each other’s mouths,
home to buried treasures of
long ago deep kisses,
tearing off our arms
that sheltered forbidden embraces
fallen angels
now stifle each other’s eyes
now joyless, vanished,
pregnant with wariness,
hearts now ashen, crestfallen,
baffled then vanquished,
severed
sealed shut,
and ever mistrustful of each other’s gorgeous light
