surrounding empty tables
where brothers share food,
where air brushed “seize the time!” signs
blaze and pulsate
and waves of hard bop notes
follow fortresses of blaring trumpets
and wailing saxophones,
forever destined to erupt from these city rivers of the assembled,
til all the racist bullshit outside these walls
gets wiped away clean,
