THE SYSTEM IN MY GAME FOR MAKING SPELL BOOKS IS AS FOLLOWS:
1. It takes one day to learn a spell and scribe it into your spell book. There is no chance of failure in scribing books. Inscribing a spell into a book costs 100 g.p. per level of the spell written, plus 10 g.p. for a quill from a magical feathered creature (such as a cockatrice or hippogriff), but takes only one day regardless of the level of the spell. The cost causes spell books to not be worth writing and selling for a profit, which allows the time to be one day per spell.
2. A player cannot cast a spell out of a book he or she has written. For those of you who missed the discussion, this is to offset the (a) incredible time involved in making a spell book that would take as long as a comparable scroll, while (b) not allowing a character to abuse the shortened time of making spell books by using them in place of scrolls.
3. You may own traveling books, standard books, both, or some combination. I don't care. If you do not tell me otherwise when giving me a list of spells you learn, I will assume you are making standard books and charge you accordingly. (A full standard book is slightly cheaper than the number of traveling books it would take to hold the same number of spells.)
4. The spell books on your sheets may or may not be divided up as per this rule. If you don't tell me how you want them done, I will do it for you eventually, splitting them up in the order they are on your sheet.
