Griffagons are larger, more vicious griffons.  They conform to griffons characteristics, except as noted here and above.

Griffagons have an extremely heavy feather coat, which causes blunt weapons to deal only half damage.  If they strike with a beak attack and roll 5 or more over the score needed to hit, they will maintain the hold for another segment and viciously shake the victim, doing another d12 +8 damage, then throwing their victim down and away at least 10’, dealing 2d6 more damage and causing the victim to lose the next two segments worth of attacks, or at least one attack in any case.

They are intelligent enough to keep live horses in their lairs and feed them against times of need, and can use magic items requiring minimal manual dexterity (a ring would be worn, but a wand could not be used unless the wand had a command phrase the creature could speak).

Griffagons reproduce once a year, giving birth in the spring.  The young take three years to reach full growth.  They breed 6-7 times between age 4 and their last egg laying.  They live to be 50 +/- 8 years old.  They lay 1-2 eggs about March 1, eggs hatch about a year later, young are independent about two years later, and are full grown about a year later.  They can learn one skill per intelligence point (8-10).  They cost 250 gold per month to keep (mostly live or raw flesh, and some grooming and health items), or 125 gp per month until 1 year old.  It takes one month to teach them a skill, which can start when they have reached independent age.  Skills include: carrying a rider, physical commands (heels, whip), verbal commands, aerial combat, land combat, retreival, spying, guarding, using a device, learning another language, tracking, bombardment; others may be thought up.

Eggs generally sell for 3000, fledgelings for 8000, and full grown for 25,000 or more if hit points are above average (62 is average).  A fully trained adult would sell for 35,000, more if hit points are above average.
