Many languages are spoken in this world. Most types of creatures of Average or higher intelligence have their own language, and there are a large number of languages spoken by the various human and demi-human countries. In addition, there is a widely known language known as 'common' used by traders, nobles, and others who have contact with those from far away.
While most countries have a tongue that is distinct from many others, for simplicity's sake, you can assume most countries languages are related to the dominant language, as listed below.
In addition, all intelligent creatures may know their 'alignment tongue'; this is discussed in more detail on the Alignments page.
If you wish to learn a language, it will take one month of daily study to become passable; after that, it is assumed that you are practicing when possible, to become more proficient. The initial month will generally require the presence of a teacher.
In general, the languages are known from the oldest country they are spoken in, though there are exceptions (like Finnish, which did not actually originate in Dorwinion).

It will be assumed, and added at no cost, that all players and henchmen speak their local language (for most of you, Alkyran/Norse).
