Elosterian Palantir

In November 1167, the group was given a small box with a powerful magic item inside, as part of a reward for rescuing the dragon Rhaegal from the minions of Demogorgon. The group loaned the box to Eliste so she and her cohorts could see if they could divine information the item. After the presented the information below, the group decided to trade the item to Eliste for training time.

This small chest radiates medium magic. When the lid is closed, the contents are strongly protected from damage. Inside is a mithral object, one side is a spike about 6" long, and the other looks like a network of branches, that splits from the spike into six, each of which splits into six more, a total of four times. This is a plane shift tuning fork, which is ‘rung’ by being breathed on from above, but it can only be triggered by an elf who is at least five hundred years old. It opens a gate to an alternate timeline of this world.

Apparently, with the assistance of a captive elf, demons had been using this item to dump powerful magic items into this other world, with the goal of keeping them out of the hands of mortals here.

In this alternate world, the Elves never left the land of the creators, and the dwarves never appeared. Humans have been on the world for thousands of years, but they never expanded outside of one large town and a few surrounding hexes. This town is located were Aertael is. Terrain is identical, but there are no roads.

Creatures on this world tend to be much more powerful, with many proto-deities found leading small armies of very powerful creatures.

All the deities you know have some power here, but it is weaker, particularly in the realm of knowledge. One important area is that clerical and druidic knowledge spells are almost useless. Eliste was not able to determine any specifics beyond this.

Magic-user and illusionist spells are unchanged, however, the inhabitants of this world are not familiar with any spells except those in the Player's Handbook.

Magic here has no absolutes – items that normally do, instead count as 100% magic resistance at the level of the caster. An example is Amulet of Proof vs. detection and location – it adds 100% to the chance to not be seen. This may be worthless against the most powerful inhabitants of this world.

Combat is very different here, due to some metaphysical differences in the nature of matter and energy. Attacks never miss, it’s just a matter of how much damage they do. This is all they can tell you.
