Cooking
Many years ago, in the kingdom of Folaria far to the north, a group of adventurers looted a chest of magical tomes. Each book covered one subject, ranging from crafting magical items to obscure psionic powers, to healing spells lost to the ages, and combat skills unknown. Some of the books were of subjects that didn’t seem as interesting, and they were set aside for later perusal. One of them was Cooking Mastery.
Later, when the book was finally studied, it was discovered that it contained recipes for cooking foods that would give magical benefits. However, the skills were cumulative, and it took years for anyone to master the skills to the point where they could teach others. These skills have gradually spread as more and more mastered this art and could teach it to others. Finally a cooking trainer and his school have arrived in Attellaria, ready to spread their knowledge – for a price.
Students will have to spend Character Improvement Points for each level and each recipe they wish to learn. Each level of cooking will have to be completed (that is, all the recipes learned) before the next can be begun. Students cannot teach anything to others until they have mastered the cooking craft. (This does not mean they can’t tell anyone about what they learn, and the following document can be freely shared – it just means that they can’t teach others how to prepare and cook the recipes listed below.)
All enhancements granted by these foods increase based on the level of the recipe or cook. These foods will also maintain their power for a duration based on the level of the recipe or cook also. Applying magical preservation to these foods will immediately spoil them. The materials used in this cooking may, however, be preserved magically or through mundane needs.
Any recipe will create only sufficient food to server one person at first; for each level of skill the chef has above the recipe level an additional portion can be prepared if materials are available, until a maximum of six portions is reached. A chef cannot have multiple cook fires going at once, but can only cook one recipe at a time. For instance, a level 2 chef could make a meal for two portions from a level 1 recipe; a level six chef could make a meal for five portions from a level 1 recipe; a level 10 chef could make a meal six portions from a level 4 recipe.
Note that the level of a recipe is the minimum level required in order to benefit from eating any recipe – so a level 9 character will gain no benefit from level 10 food, for instance.
No more than one kind of food can be in effect at once. Eating a second magical food will cause the effect of the first to be dispelled. Note this does not apply to the foods which heal; you could eat as many of those in a row as desired, and each would heal for the listed amount. Eating these foods gives the nutrition of a good meal, but does not make one feel full, as the magic of the food causes them to be immediately absorbed by the body.
In 1152 a school was founded in Arnach city in Folaria, run by a man named Notch, who is a member of an adventuring group known as the Knights of the Hollow Hill. The school is located in the business district, and is called the Knights of the Hollow Stomach. He only teaches the advanced classes, levels 8 and up. The school provides all needed materials, and will teach skill levels and recipes for double the level cost listed above. As noted, it takes a week to train a level, and a day for each recipe; these cannot be done simultaneously.
In 1165, an branch of the school was opened in Aertael. This school is also named the Knights of the Hollow Stomach.
